Wrinkles

smooth lines and soften edges

Facial lines, creases and wrinkles often develop in our 30s and become more prominent in our 40s. Over time our skin loses its elasticity, as collagen, elastin and skin hydrators begin to reduce.

Common concerns are the development of forehead lines, frown lines, crows’ feet, and bunny lines which are sites of the most repetitive facial expression.

Anti-wrinkle treatments temporarily freeze facial muscles, diminishing movement which reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and existing lines are gently softened before they become deeper set giving a rejuvenated more youthful appearance. Early treatment can prevent lines developing in the first place.

With gentle application the treatment can offer a very natural result that will enhance your appearance subtly.

Anti-wrinkle treatment offers fast results with very little downtime. It normally takes around two weeks to see full results, with further treatments required over time to maintain a smooth and youthful look.

A treatment usually lasts 12 weeks and the frequency of treatment will depend on how often you want to refresh your appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is involved?

If you are considering an injectable treatment please book a consultation.

During the consultation I will assess the area of concern, complete a health questionnaire, answer any of your questions and develop an effective treatment plan for you.

On the day of the treatment I will confirm the treatment plan, take you through the consent process and take some pre-treatment photographs. The area of treatment will be cleaned, a pencil will be used to mark the areas of treatment and then I will start the treatment. The process of injection is normally no longer than 5 minutes. After treatment, I will discuss how best to look after the area that has been treated. You will then be offered a review appointment and I will send you an email confirming the aftercare instructions.

Anti-wrinkle injections are a safe and effective treatment. Depending on the anatomy and strength of the muscles , some people may require a higher dose injection compared to others.

Optimal results can normally be achieved in one treatment session. If further treatment is required I offer a complimentary ‘top-up’ within 1 month of treatment.

Do I need a patch test?

No, a patch test is not required.

Is it painful?

The injections are done using a very small needle and are not painful. Numbing cream is not usually required.

Are there any unwanted side effects?

Unwanted effects are rare. You may notice slight redness or bruising from the injections. This is only temporary and can be covered by makeup.

Other effects reported are headache, flu-like symptoms, nausea, drooping of the eyelid or brow, irritation of the treated area, weeping or dry eye, opening of the eyelid, double vision, and an outward or inward turning of the eyelid. These unwanted effects are uncommon in cosmetic treatments.

Should they occur, they are usually transient in nature and should pass on their own. Botulinum Toxin Type A injections are generally well tolerated by patients.

The effects of muscle relaxant injections may be increased with the use of certain antibiotics or other drugs that interfere with neuromuscular transmission. Please let me know about all the medication you are taking.

Pre-treatment advice

Please do not wear makeup to the clinic; if worn, please plan to remove it before treatment. To minimise the chance of bruising, please do the following. Preferably stay off aspirin or aspirin-containing products for 10 days prior to your treatment. Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before treatment. Be sure to discuss with me any bleeding tendencies and current medications being used.

Post-treatment advice

If you feel a headache or any pain at the injection sites you may use Paracetamol every four to six hours. It is best not to take aspirin or alcohol for 24 hours after the procedure.

Ice can be applied immediately following treatment. If you bruise easily, plan to go home and apply ice to the treated area(s) for a few hours.

After treatment you should avoid pressing or rubbing the injection areas for three to four hours. Also, don’t lie down or bend down for three to four hours to avoid spreading the toxin to other muscles.

You should use the treated muscles as much as possible (e.g. grimace, smile, frown) in the next one to two hours to secure a good uptake of the toxin.

Avoid strenuous exercise causing perspiration for 24 hours following treatment. You may otherwise resume normal activities. Most patients continue their normal activities immediately after the procedure. You may return to work the same day. However, please avoid the following for 24 hours: facial massage, sunbathing, saunas, peels, facials, laser treatment.

After treatment do not apply makeup for six hours, avoid pressing or rubbing the injection areas for four hours and don’t lie or bend down for four hours to avoid the toxin spreading to other muscles.
